The Quiet Trouble of a Shadow

HD | B&W | sound | 5min | 2020

In The Annoyance of a Shadow, I sought to explore the individuality of sound without the involvement of vision. A traditional Confucian book, Book of Rites, alludes to the fact that sound would not exist without the human mind. It posits the idea that sound is not caused by physical vibration, but by our perception. In this film, I separate the audio from the visual, with one seemingly peaceful and the other prompting anxiety. This contradiction helps to highlight how the sounds that were heard by the protagonist in fact stem from her anxious mind.
