Morning Blues

Super8 & Cassette Camcorder to HD | Color and B&W | Sound | 6min | 2022

Morning Blues is a visual poem created during my depression. The film explores the binary of absence/presence and infinity/finiteness in time and space. The inspiration is from the challenges I encountered upon awakening each morning, as I found myself trapped in a small room, unable to ventureout. The music, composed by Andrew Moses, which is controlled by my brainwaves recorded during depressed moments, is a sonic narrative of my emotions as another nonverbal response to the question of how I feel when I'm blue.

By experimenting with multiple visual materials, I discovered a primitive and rough language through the use of chemicals, celluloid, paintings, analog film, video, instant film, and prints. It invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of human emotions, providing a deep glimpse into the struggles through the depths of depression.
